4 months...and a perfect day

I took Eleanor in for her 4 month check-up on Friday and here are her stats:

Height: 23 3/4 (50%)
Weight: 13lbs 9oz (50%)
Head: 75%

I told the doctor everyone comments on how small she is and he seemed surprised by that -- he said she was perfect for her age (hence the 50%). It's still so strange for me to have a "baby" b/c Henry was only a baby for like 2 months and then he just morphed into looking like a toddler. He was 6 lbs and about 4 inches longer than Eleanor by now, or something crazy like that.

In other news, Eleanor got a bugaboo! Thanks grandma!!!!! We went for a walk around the lake today which is about 3 miles. Justin had Henry in the jogging stroller and I had Eleanor in her new stroller and she passed out within about 30 seconds of being in it and was happy as a clam. Yay! Henry was happy too so perhaps we will make this a regular outing. After that we went to whole foods for their brunch buffet and then home for nap. Eleanor is no longer taking naps in her swing (one, b/c the motor broke and two b/c she needs to get used to napping w/o motion) and she and Henry took a wonderful 3 hr nap, which meant dad and I got long naps too!

After nap we went to Central Market to play on the playground and eat dinner. When we got home it was bath, jammies and books and E was asleep by 7. I went in to cuddle with Henry and he told me some stories. Tonight he told me this story:

"Once upon a time there was a little girl with no name. She asked her mommy what her name was and her mommy said, "No Name" and then she asked her daddy and he said, "No Name" and then she asked her big brother and he said, "Your name is No Name but I can give you a new name. How about hklasdfhs gfshdgsgajspg"

His next story was also great.

"Once upon a time there was a little boy who was a little girl. Hahahhaha."

And finally, Henry's new favorite movie is Fantastic Mr. Fox. This marks the first occasion of mom and dad loving a kid movie just as much, if not more, than Henry.

Battle of the silly faces

Harper gives Henry a run for his money when it comes to who is sillier. He likes that a good deal.

Henry's First Film

Jane was here...

Henry's First Film

Jane was here...

Trading Places...

Henry is now sleeping in a bed...and Eleanor is sleeping in a crib! I'll take pictures tonight for your enjoyment.

BIG changes around here, folks. And A LOT less sleep for all involved. But hopefully in a week or so, we'll adjust.

Some Eleanor tid-bits

Eleanor is giggling now. We worked very hard back in the day to get just a minimal courtesy-laugh from Henry, but E practically gives them away. All you have to do is bonk yourself in the head with some stuffed animal and say "Boing!". It's pretty dang great.

Also, she is just awesome in her own way. I change her diaper once a night (how kind of me) b/c she sleeps longer, and last night, in my mostly-asleep haze, I got her foot caught in the diaper without realizing it. So when she woke this morning I went to change her diaper and saw that her foot/leg was missing! Then I saw that it was folded up in...her...diaper. I opened the diaper and there was her poor little foot, all shriveled up from being wet for hours and hours. She didn't even wake up that whole time! She is out when she's sleeping. Which is fantastic...but yeah, I wish I had known. I felt awful.

In other news, I heard Chela call her "Gordita" which means "Little fatty" in Spanish (basically). She definitely has some chub on her but she's very petite. Probably only 23 or 24 inches long I'm guessing. I won't know till next Friday when she has her 4 month exam. This is basically meaningless though b/c Henry was ridiculously large and long very very fast (she's still not as long as he was at 2 months)and he evened out around 18 mos. Sometimes they grow quickly and sometimes slowly but I'm pretty sure it will all even out to about avg. when all is said and done.

Henry and Harper

It's Spring Break this week (ugh) so school is out and our nanny is committed to Harper's family on school breaks, so I have been with the kids in the morning on MWF, all day T/TH, and Justin has had them MWF afternoons. It's been exhausting trying to meet both of their needs. She needs naps and he needs to be outside and/or playing with friends. Those two things are not necessarily compatible. But we did pretty good, considering. Today I took the kids to a musical story-time and there was lots of running around and bubbles and friends and songs and this afternoon Justin took the kids over to Harper's house, where Eleanor was joyfully reunited with her Chela (the nanny). Then they all walked over to the park together. Eleanor fell asleep in a stroller. Not our stroller mind you, b/c apparently our stroller is made out of rocks and pins b/c she screams when she gets in it, but Harper's stroller which is something called a Bugaboo and now I probably have to get one. (Or perhaps it was just Chela's baby-voodoo--but this marks the first time either of my children have EVER fallen asleep in a stroller).

The Fellas

Here's Henry, Kitty and I relaxing...enjoying a little animal cruelty (aka The Adventures of Milo & Otis). If Henry didn't love this movie so much, it would definitely go in the trash where it belongs, although the allegation that at least 20 kittens were killed during its filming was never proven true. It was probably only 19 anyway, and as the Penguins of Madagascar say, "That's a number we can live with."

Spring Fashion

You probably won't believe this, but Henry picked this outfit out (and the previous one posted this week) all by himself. I think he may be ahead of his time.

Sweet boy story #5,080

One of the things I am most thankful for about Henry is the fact that he is, for the most part, incredibly sweet. We are constantly getting praise from him (i.e. "good job putting your shoes on, Dad" or "you're a good mommy") but last night, he said something that still has me smiling. Around 11:00 I woke up to the sounds of talking in his room. Normally, if he wakes up in the night, he cries out to one of us to come deal with whatever issue woke him up. But, this time was different. I walked into his room and he seemed genuinely surprised to see me.

"Oh, I was just being silly.....sorry to wake you up, dad."
"It's okay, buddy. Everything okay?"
"Yeah, just being silly....good night, dad."
"Good night, buddy."

I have no idea why he was awake at 11:00 at night, what he was talking to himself about or how long he stayed awake after I left. But, something about that moment made me want to weep. He was sorry he woke me up.

Carousel

Carousel

It's a Jolly Holiday with Henry

Today Mae had her 3rd birthday party at Kiddie Acres....and Henry and I got to ride the carousel three times. I am almost positive I can blame Mary Poppins (and Henry's very strong affection for her) for that.

But, he was pretty excited to ride the REAL horses too.

...and the boats with Leo.
