Henry was pretty chatty today. He said a new word, "this?". He's now saying it...a lot. Also on the menu today was:ball, up/down, car, tih-hee (kitty), uh-oh, noooooo, ma ma, da da, bubble and bah-bah (bye).

Food
I keep saying I've got to write this stuff down...the sheer quantity of food Henry eats.
Today Henry ate:
Breakfast --an adult sized portion of oats with soy milk and blueberries
Snack --1/2 cup apple sauce, 1/2 cup watermelon and lots of cheerios
Lunch--an entire (nitrate free) turkey dog, 1 slice of bread with babba ganoush smeared all over it
Snack -- 1 entire pear and 1 apricot and 1/2 cup of goldfish
Dinner--1 entire mango, 1/2 an avocado, 1/2 cup of peas and garbanzo beans, 1 slice of bread

Went to Gymboree today
Today we went to check out Gymboree. It's a national chain of indoor play/music/art classes and it's expensive but clean and air conditioned--so I thought we'd give it a try.
The teacher was this guy in a rumpled suit --- so enthusiastic and over the top --I found myself throughly entertained by his ridiculousness. He did not stop talking for longer than a few seconds for the whole 45 minutes and he kept trying to corral all these one year olds into the various activities he had set up. We'd be on one thing and he'd be at the other end of the room frantically waving balls and bean bags, "Let's learn side by side kids! This is what side by side means--today we're learning side by side Sofia! C'mon Olivia! Let's learn side by side!!!" The greatest part was he could not remember Henry's name. He'd do each activity and call out the child's name, "This bubble is for LUCIAN!!!!" and then he'd get to Henry and say "This bubble is for.... (and he'd uncomfortably pause and swallow and stare seizure like)..... HENRY!!!!"
Throughout the activity time he kept referring to "our signature activity". I was like damn, I can't wait to see what that is. Let's do this already. So finally out came the "signature activity" which was a long blown up log and all the kids beat on it. Henry liked it but I guess I was confused why that was the signature activity. Why not when he managed to work the name Gymboree into the lyrics of every song he sang or when all the puppets he used were named "Gymbo".
Anyway, it was fun and it was clean but I felt like I was being sold Amway the whole time, so I'm going to pass.

Teething...ouch
Of course right after I posted that his teeth don't seem to be affecting his sleep I get cursed with major sleep issues. He is waking up constantly and crying and crying and touching his mouth. His drool is not to be believed. Justin and I are taking turns sleeping with him because he is in so much pain at night. We're giving him Motrin and that helps, but this is a real doozy. He's never had such problems with teething but he's never gotten 6 at once. He's getting all four incisors and two molars. His mouth is a bloody swollen mess and he will barely eat anything. Last night we cut up a frozen mango juice pop and he loved that, but he's pretty miserable. Poor little guy.

Update: Pretty much the same stuff...except more teeth and walking
Henry is getting so many teeth now I can't count. I can only get a good view inside his mouth when he cries...which now that he's walking is more often (when he falls). I think he's getting 4 teeth in right now...as we speak. His sleep schedule is slightly off, but he's still getting the same amount of sleep (between 13 and 15 hrs per day). He's still falling asleep between 6:30 and 7:00PM but his wake-up time is erratic. It's as early as 5:30 and as late as 7. Depending on when he wakes, his morning nap is still 2 hrs after he wakes and then again about 3 hours later. Morning nap is shorter (45-to an hour) and then afternoon nap is always 1.5 to 2 hrs long. So this is basically the same thing he's been doing for the last 6 or 7 months. I keep expecting him to drop the AM nap but he seems so tired that I just put him down and he sleeps.
Henry continues to eat an alarming amount of food. I'm anxious to see how much he weighs at his next check-up (next month). I'm debating cutting back on the avocados and eggs. He might not need so much fat/calories anymore but since he can't have dairy I try to find fats/proteins elsewhere.
We are continuing our rotation of playgroups/play dates/running errands/going to storytimes and libraries/the children's museum and of course swimming as much as possible (it's so hot here that's the only time we are outside is to swim). Henry also enjoys going to the baby co-op myself and 4 other mom's participate in (still just 2 hours 2 days a week). I am still undecided about when to go back to work. The thought of being away from Henry makes my stomach hurt, so I'm obviously not ready now. Time will tell.....
