She sleeps a lot. Last night she went to bed around 7:30 and then some time around midnight she indicated to me that she was hungry (she makes grunting sounds and starts chewing on her sleeves, but she doesn't actually wake up or cry, oddly enough). Then around 3 she started chewing on her sleeves again and then she woke up at 7:30 and was awake till 8:15 or 8:30 (spent most of that time nursing) and then she has been asleep ever since (it's 10 now...she'll start eating her sleeves again pretty soon but without waking and will probably not wake up again till some time between 12 or 2 and again, it may only last 45 min to an hour and a half). Then she'll have an awake period from 6-7:30ish and then be out for the night. I'm just guessing....she could start changing on me any day now. This sleeping constantly thing is not going to last.
Daddy and Henry are at a birthday party this morning. Eleanor and I are cleaning the house (she's supervising). Henry is begging us to see Santa ASAP...not sure if we can do that today....the thought of the mall on a Saturday during Christmas shopping season makes me twitch. I might have to smuggle him in on a weekday with Eleanor in tow. That too sounds like a nightmare but these are the things we do for our children. Sigh...
On the baby front--all is going well. She's got the nursing thing down now, without torturing me, which is nice. It was only rough going for about 3 days and now it's perfect. With Henry it was torture for about 40 days. I'm sure my experience helps. That and some 2 and a half year old steroid called 'triple nipple cream'. Fixed em' right up. Obviously she's got sleep figured out. I would say the only thing that isn't working right now is that absolutely nothing...and I mean NOTHING, fits her. All of her clothes are HUGE on her. I have a ton of newborn cloths and 0-3 mos and all of it is way too big on her. I have to roll everything up. The clothes say for size 8-10 lbs and by now I'm sure she's 8lbs, but still...nothing fits even remotely. I'm sure this will all be remedied in a few weeks, but for now it's no fun. What else...pooping. Yes, she has that down as well. She is very considerate and typically waits till she's awake. She will lay on the changing table and grunt for a bit and then out it flows. We just put some paper towels under her and switch them out with each batch (usually 3-4!). Sometimes we think she's done and put on a new dipe only to be changing it again in about 30 seconds. This is also very different from Henry...I had to change his diaper every two hours in the night...and Eleanor...she does not get her diaper changed in the night...and I feel badly about that...but she seems okay with it and she doesn't have a diaper rash (since we discovered the right cream for her--which is Lansinoh--Henry is a Desitin kind of kid--nothing else worked on him and Desitin makes her bottom look like we rubbed it against concrete) so so far it hasn't been an issue.
Henry is still doing a great job ignoring her existence. Which is fine and understandable. They barely see each other since she's asleep most of the day. I put her on the activity mat for a few min. the other day and she started fussing and Henry was right next to her and said, "It's okay, I'm right here." It was very sweet. I would say he is acting completely normally except he is on a hunger strike. He has not really eaten since she was born, although he is eating normally at school. Today he ate a whole bowl of cereal so maybe his appetite is back now. We'll see.
