Went for our one month check-up today

Today we went to the pediatrician for Henry's one month check up. The doc asked if I was churning buttermilk because Henry is now in the 90% for growth. He weighs 11 lbs and 10 ounces (he was 8.3 at birth).

We had our first public diaper change in the waiting room. He had a massive poop explosion that was audible to everyone in the room so I felt obliged to check it out. He pooped so violently that it seeped through his diaper and outfit and onto his car seat. I did the best I could and when I was done I had this massive poopy diaper and I didn't know what to do with it. I actually had to ask the woman next to me what the etiquette was and she said to NOT throw it in the trashcan, which was what I was planning on doing. She gave me the baby equivalent of the boo-boo bag that you've seen dog owners with. I guess I've got to get some of those now that we're cleared to leave the house.

Mundane sleeping and eating update: Henry ate about every 2 hours today and was in a milk induced coma for most of the day. This is different from yesterday when he only ate about every three hours and was wide awake and alert for 4 to 5 hours at a time. Last night he slept perfectly--for the first time. He went to bed around 9--woke up at 12:30, ate and fell right back to sleep (normally it takes at least an hour and a half for him to fall back asleep--with much coaxing) and then he woke up again at 3:30 and ate and fell back asleep and then again at 5:30 and then we got up at 7 and went for a walk around the neighborhood. He fell back asleep and then I woke him for our doc appointment. This was BY FAR the most he's EVER slept. Also, it is no longer torture to feed him. YEAH!

Today I discovered if I talk to him he wont cry in the car. The conversations are "And on the right is the school for the blind. Look, there's some blind people. And now we're passing the state mental hospital--look a Chile's on the right. They have potato poppers. And there's Central Market where you can get nice produce...."

  1. You crack me up. I literally giggled through the entire thing. I can totally picture the one sided henry car conversations. You know what else is a miracle? The frickin ABC song. I swehtugod, start singing that just as loud as you can, and they're totally confused and stop screaming and look at you. They eventually forget what they were crying about and are totally lulled by your voice. Yay for him going to sleep after feeding!

  2. As someone who has always had an amazing talent for writing, I think you should chronicle your life as a new mommy - but the real stuff, not just the cutsie stuff. Call it "The Not-So-Cutsie Chronicles." Seriously, I'll be your agent :) Either way, this baby should be positioned for some Gerber spots. He's beautiful. love, laura p.

  4. ahem!! based on your "drive-by commentary" to henry, you drove ONE BLOCK from my house, and I noticed the commentary lacked, "oh, and to the west is a beautiful street called marathon where a beautiful...er, perhaps, intelligent and beautiful, yeah, that's better...hippie dippy mama lives with her charming husband and baby." I can't wait to see this little guy! we'll catch each other very soon! miss you!
