I'm just going to brag...and document some memories
Henry has been saying two and 3 word "sentences" for a while now and once or twice he's said a 4-worder but today we were driving to the doctor for #2 flu shot and Henry said, "Mama, no more the bread." (I had given him a piece of bread for the drive). I was so proud of him.
He went into the closet this morning and found a box of toys I'd stashed (I try to not have too many out at once or it's overwhelming for him...and us) and he submerged from the closet with a toy phone. He was just chattering away non-stop, gibber jabber toddler speak and I said, "Who are you talking to?" and he said "Santa".
We were raking up the leaves this morning and Henry LOVES to help. So we got him a small grocery bag and he put on my gloves and put leaves in the bag. It's so cute when he does this---he really loves it. He likes to help unload the dishwasher and help put the clothes in the dryer--but the best is when he tries to sweep or rake. He really works hard! Or when I am sweeping he wants to hold the dustpan and he does a great job, but then he dumps the contents back out onto the floor.
Henry has been playing a lot more by himself lately. I'd say he can even go 40 min. Or he'll play with the same toy for a really long time. He seems to pick a toy for the day and then stick with it for incredible lengths of time. Like the bus, his trains, or his new lawnmower. Yesterday it was his new helicopter.
I love him.

Justin's a copy cat
Justin made a blog for himself too. It's called Nothing Is Worse and it's listed above mine. It will probably be strange and make no sense and then also be funny....just like he is.
You've been warned.

I started my own blog
This one is Henry's blog and I want to keep it that way. But on the right of this page you can see a thing called Blog list and I put my own personal blog on it (it's called jolly good mother...because 'for she's a jolly good mother' was too long). I just started it yesterday. It's mainly a place for me to comment on stuff I don't really want on Henry's blog. One, because not everyone who wants to see pics of Henry wants to read my list of the 10 best movies of 2008, or read about how much I hate the Israeli govt. and 2. Because my memory is getting very bad and if I don't start writing things down somewhere I will completely forget this time in my life...and I don't want that to happen.

Great Christmas, Very Few Pictures To Prove It
It has been a while since I have spent a Christmas back home. And despite the lack of photographic evidence, it was very memorable. We were just happy to spend it with Mom/Grandma Paula at her HOUSE and not Doctor's Hospital like it was looking for a while. She is doing much better and it appears a full recovery is underway.
Not sure why, but we took a total of about 10 photos the entire week. And this one is an example of our quality effort.

We will do better next year.
This is Aunt Vicky with Henry's cousin Maggy enjoying her new hat and mittens.
Henry tried to wear Maggy's bow. He was pretty into all things Maggy. The first thing he'd say in the morning was "baby?" and the last thing before bed was also, "baby?". There were several embraces between them but unfortunately we don't have any pictures.

Hope everyone had a great holiday and here's to a HEALTHY, SAFE, and happy new year.
Love,
Dada

Mowing. Lots and lots of mowing.
Aunt Rachel and Uncle Karl answered Henry's prayers and bought him a bubble mower. Since that time, if we are at home, he's mowing. Mowing the front room. Mowing the kitchen. Mowing the back room. Mowing the back room some more. It's not a particularly quiet procedure either.
When he did stop mowing, it was only to watch this video of himself mowing...which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Before and After

This (above) was taken about 6 months ago but this is basically what the front room looks like now. Below was taken about 2 years ago (right after my grandma moved into assisted living and I got her stuff, in case you couldn't tell:-), in the exact same room (I'm standing further to the left so you can see the kitchen). Hard to believe!

Hard to believe our house used to look like adults lived in it.

19 months
Justin's mom is doing MUCH better. She is off the ventilator and sat in a chair today. She can say some words and she can eat small amounts of food. This is very good news.
Things with Henry are basically the same, except for his increasing acquisition of language and knowledge of the world around him. If something is spilled Henry will say, "towel". If he goes number 2 he grabs his diaper and says "poo poo" to let us know. He is learning the names of fruits and vegetables. He is learning the alphabet song. He bobs his head up and down when he hears drums. He is getting better on colors, and he can recognize and say the letters H, E and O. He is developing a very silly sense of humor. He purposefully attempts to make us laugh--which makes us laugh even more. If we laugh at something he's doing, he starts doing it in a more exaggerated way and then we laugh more and he laughs and so on. He likes to hold both our hands when we walk somewhere.
Personality wise, he is very laid back still. Tantrums are pretty rare and if they happen they are easy to diffuse. For example, he might get frustrated with a toy that won't do what he wants so he starts getting agitated and then I'll say, "Do you need help?" and that diffuses it, once I fix the toy. Or like today, I put his hood on him before we got in the car and he didn't want it on but by then I was driving and couldn't reach back to get it off, so I just put my hood on me and that made him happy.
I have yet to find any reason to do a time-out, but I know some people do this by Henry's age. It seems like every single time he has tantrumed it was for a very good reason, and I can't really fault him. The vast majority of his frustration occurs near nap-time. I get bitchy when I'm tired too. I think most people do.
Another aspect of his personality I've noticed is he's never run away from me or Justin. I think this is the age when if they haven't started doing this, they will soon. But he hasn't yet. We'll see.
My mom bought him all the Thomas trains and a track, so that's been the new obsession. He carries them everywhere. His grandpa Gary got him a bus yesterday that he probably played with for 4 hours total (when he wasn't playing train). His interests still seem to be buses, trucks, helicopters, cars and airplanes. And of course balls. Basketballs, soccer, and tennis balls especially.
The last 7 days or so he's just taken just one long nap but today he needed 2 short ones because he woke at 6:15 instead of 7 or 7:30 like he's been doing. When he wakes up in the morning he no longer cries out, he just says "mama" repeatedly until I come in. This makes it more difficult to ignore a 5 AM wake up. I used to be able to say to myself that he'd go back to sleep if I just gave him a chance, but now I find it too heartbreaking to listen to "maaaaaawwwwmaaaaahhhhh". I go. The kid has me. I lay down with him and we fall back asleep.
Food wise he still eats tons of everything. Tonight for dinner he ate salmon, green beans, broccoli, kidney beans, pineapple, orange slices, half an avocado and a slice of whole wheat bread. For dessert I gave him a small piece of bitter dark chocolate. Lunch was a whole banana, 1/2 a rice cake dipped in humus, a bowl of blueberries, a thick slice of cheddar cheese and a pear/raspberry granola bar. Breakfast was 2 eggs, and a bowl of granola cereal with dried fruit and almonds mixed in. Snacks today were dried prunes, more blueberries, crackers and raisins.
I feel like at some point, it's all gonna turn on me and we'll be eating nothing but chicken nuggets and mac N cheese. This insanity can not last.

Update on stuff...
Justin's mom is the same. Still on a ventilator. Just waiting for news.
Henry and I stayed in Austin because my back was in such bad shape I could not sit in a car for the length of time it would take to drive to Dallas. My mom hooked me up with a nanny and I was able to get some much needed rest. Today was so much better than yesterday. I am able to walk without stooping or being in agony. It's not back to normal but it is MUCH better. I'd say 85%.
Speaking of the nanny....geez....what a glimpse of what it would be like to be rich. I would SOOOOOO have a nanny if I could afford one. She was so wonderful and Henry is basically in love with her. He seriously flirts with her. She's this tall willowy college sophomore. Very kind and gentle and sweet. She read to him for hours (his favorite) and they played outside way longer then I am capable of.
Justin is returning tomorrow evening. Thank goodness. Single parenting is for the birds..even with a nanny.

Bad news...
We are leaving to go to Dallas tomorrow. Justin's mom was bucked off her horse and she's in the hospital. It appears to be quite serious. On top of this, I threw out my back this morning. I am basically an invalid. I can crawl and walk in a very stooped position but I can't pick up Henry which is pretty awful (for both of us). I am in a lot of pain and was given medication for it that I can't really take since I'm still nursing. If you're in the Dallas area and can come over and play with us, Henry would love it. I imagine it's going to be us doing a lot of sitting around while Justin goes back and forth to see his mom in the hospital.
Also, if anyone reading this has a pack N play they can let me borrow, call me:-)

I imagine it's going to be us doing a lot of sitting around while Justin goes back and forth to see his mom in the hospital.
Also, if anyone reading this has a pack N play they can let me borrow, call me:-)
