Justin's mom is doing MUCH better. She is off the ventilator and sat in a chair today. She can say some words and she can eat small amounts of food. This is very good news.
Things with Henry are basically the same, except for his increasing acquisition of language and knowledge of the world around him. If something is spilled Henry will say, "towel". If he goes number 2 he grabs his diaper and says "poo poo" to let us know. He is learning the names of fruits and vegetables. He is learning the alphabet song. He bobs his head up and down when he hears drums. He is getting better on colors, and he can recognize and say the letters H, E and O. He is developing a very silly sense of humor. He purposefully attempts to make us laugh--which makes us laugh even more. If we laugh at something he's doing, he starts doing it in a more exaggerated way and then we laugh more and he laughs and so on. He likes to hold both our hands when we walk somewhere.
Personality wise, he is very laid back still. Tantrums are pretty rare and if they happen they are easy to diffuse. For example, he might get frustrated with a toy that won't do what he wants so he starts getting agitated and then I'll say, "Do you need help?" and that diffuses it, once I fix the toy. Or like today, I put his hood on him before we got in the car and he didn't want it on but by then I was driving and couldn't reach back to get it off, so I just put my hood on me and that made him happy.
I have yet to find any reason to do a time-out, but I know some people do this by Henry's age. It seems like every single time he has tantrumed it was for a very good reason, and I can't really fault him. The vast majority of his frustration occurs near nap-time. I get bitchy when I'm tired too. I think most people do.
Another aspect of his personality I've noticed is he's never run away from me or Justin. I think this is the age when if they haven't started doing this, they will soon. But he hasn't yet. We'll see.
My mom bought him all the Thomas trains and a track, so that's been the new obsession. He carries them everywhere. His grandpa Gary got him a bus yesterday that he probably played with for 4 hours total (when he wasn't playing train). His interests still seem to be buses, trucks, helicopters, cars and airplanes. And of course balls. Basketballs, soccer, and tennis balls especially.
The last 7 days or so he's just taken just one long nap but today he needed 2 short ones because he woke at 6:15 instead of 7 or 7:30 like he's been doing. When he wakes up in the morning he no longer cries out, he just says "mama" repeatedly until I come in. This makes it more difficult to ignore a 5 AM wake up. I used to be able to say to myself that he'd go back to sleep if I just gave him a chance, but now I find it too heartbreaking to listen to "maaaaaawwwwmaaaaahhhhh". I go. The kid has me. I lay down with him and we fall back asleep.
Food wise he still eats tons of everything. Tonight for dinner he ate salmon, green beans, broccoli, kidney beans, pineapple, orange slices, half an avocado and a slice of whole wheat bread. For dessert I gave him a small piece of bitter dark chocolate. Lunch was a whole banana, 1/2 a rice cake dipped in humus, a bowl of blueberries, a thick slice of cheddar cheese and a pear/raspberry granola bar. Breakfast was 2 eggs, and a bowl of granola cereal with dried fruit and almonds mixed in. Snacks today were dried prunes, more blueberries, crackers and raisins.
I feel like at some point, it's all gonna turn on me and we'll be eating nothing but chicken nuggets and mac N cheese. This insanity can not last.
