Henry is 21 months old

...as of yesterday. And speaking of yesterday, it was one of the most awful, if not THE most awful days of my life. Henry tried to pick up the iron, while it was still hot. I do not want to share the details over how this happened b/c Justin already feels horrible enough as it is. I probably should not even be writing about it, but I use this blog to remember things down the road and I want to just document that it happened, it was horrible and I hope nothing worse ever happens to Henry. I know that's a big hope, but I don't think it's unreasonable. The worst thing that happened to me as a kid was stitches in my chin. So, give me my hopes...

We kept Henry's hand in cold water most of the day and doped on Motrin/Tylenol every 3 hours. We had to watch a lot of movies to keep him from thinking about his hand.

I've got to say, I am very disappointed in how I handled things. Normally I am cool as a cucumber in a crises...but I could not stop crying. I could not even think straight. I just wanted him to stop screaming, stop writhing in agony. It was basically just an hour of this, but it was the longest, most awful hour of my life.

What was sad about this was we were about to embark on our typical weekend of field trips and fun. We were going to go to Kiddie Acres and the museum. Possibly run around Town Lake. It was Valentines Day. Justin made chocolate covered strawberries and a wonderful dinner so that helped, but it was pretty solemn around here.

Luckily today was back to normal. We played a lot and Justin took Henry to the Children's museum while I cleaned (I love cleaning...I'm mentally ill that way). Henry ate and slept very well. He did not need any medicine, and despite his left hand looking like a giant blister, he seemed barely aware of it. We had dinner at a friend's house and when we got home, Henry fell asleep within minutes. Big exhale.

Updates on Henry: Still eating whatever we eat--salmon, broccoli, peas, carrots, any fruit, any bean, etc. etc. Not interested still in yogurt or milk, or really juice--except very dilluted apple. Still going to bed at 6:30 and waking between 6 and 7, with usually one or less wake ups in the night. He is very verbal. He talks A LOT. Recently I've had to tell him no talking while we're nursing because he tries to do both! He's very silly and loves to make us laugh. When I have more time I'm going to write down some of my favorite things he says.
