You know you're 8 months pregnant when...
...you call your 5:00 o'clock client at 4:30 and cancel your session b/c you can't stop crying (because you just found our your son's preschool teacher sent the Halloween treats you prepared home with the kids instead of serving them at snack time, like you envisioned.)

Sharing "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" with Henry....which he calls, "Snoopy's Pumpkin"....
"I wanna watch 'Snoopy's Pumpkin' again."
"You sure can, buddy. You sure can. But, you have to deal with Daddy's arm around you the whole time...grinning like an idiot. Deal?"

Why?
We have entered into the "Why?" phase of childhood. I knew it was coming from my years working with young children. And now it's here.
Time to take a bath. Why?
Time for bed. Why?
Please don't put your toys in the oatmeal. Why?
...and so on.

Lots of doctors today...
Henry had his very first dentist appointment today. He did very well. I was not sure how it would go--having strange people explore the inside of his mouth--he is a toddler after all, but it went perfectly. Henry seems to be especially compliant for strangers. Probably not a good thing, but it's working for us right now. Had I tried to clean his teeth with 4 different tools it would not have gone as smoothly, but the hygienist and dentist worked some magic and Henry was as cooperative as a N.Korean school girl. They gave him a "report card" which is really for us since we're the ones who brush his teeth and he got "Excellent" on everything. He has all his teeth (well, he's had all of them for at least the last 6 mos, maybe longer, I can't remember) and he will not be getting any new ones till he's 5 or 6.
They also said they could not see any signs of pacifier use but that since I told them he sleeps with one they said any damage caused will be un-done as soon as he stops and that he can have it till he's 3 without any worry. He sleeps so well and he's about to have a major need for some self-soothing coming up that we have really been hesitant to take it away.
After Henry's nap today we had to jettison off to another doctor's appointment. This time for him to get his H1N1 vaccine. Henry's illness 10 days ago very much convinced me that he was getting it. Justin and I were basket cases --I mean, he had 105.9 fever. I've never been so scared in my life. I can't control what he picks up at school so it's just too risky for him to not be vaccinated and me being pregnant and soon having a newborn....no way. It just wasn't an option. (As a side note, I know that what he had was not H1N1 since half his class got the same thing and many of them were tested and it was negative for all of them).
They only had the live virus (FluMist spray that goes up your nose) and I wasn't thrilled about that but that's all they had. Henry did great. I told him on the way there what to expect and he seemed okay with it. After she sprayed it up one of his nostrils he turned and looked at me and said, "I want to go home." But he didn't get upset or fight the second nostril so that was good. He sniffed it up his nose and then asked for a sticker and we were on our way. When we got home he told his dad what occurred and reenacted his reaction which I thought was awesome.
His mood the rest of the day was happy, energetic, normal. I'm a little worried he might develop some flu symptoms but so far so good.

That's a funny meaning....
The meaning of the name Henry is Ruler Of The Home
And at #57 the name Henry is now a more popular baby name than: Christopher, Joseph, David, Jason, John, Max, Thomas, Edward and Joel.
Poor guy. We tried. He's going to hear his name everywhere and teachers are going to say, "Which Henry?" when someone asks about him.

I can't stop baking...
Something about being diabetic..I dunno....but I keep baking things I can't eat and offering Henry food I can't eat. Today we baked chocolate chip cookies. Sunday I made homemade waffles. Last week I made banana bread and those carrot muffins the weekend before. I've taken him to get frozen yogurt twice this month and today I gave him ice cream. I even bought him juice (which I haven't done in over a month b/c he could really care less about it) but I just sit there and watch him eat it and somehow it makes me feel better about all the carbs and sugar I can't eat. I have a bite and then feel guilty and check my blood sugar. Ugh. 5 more weeks.

Daddy...
Daddy...
Eleanor's shower...
So, I am pretty lucky. Somehow I've managed to be surrounded by a lot of awesome women who all have kids under the age of 4 and most of them within months of Henry's age. I feel like these last 2 years have been almost a group effort--with all of us going through the same basic joys and struggles at the same time. When two of my closest friends asked to do a shower for me I wanted it to be more of a celebration of our friendship(I spared my non-mom friends from having to attend yet another baby-shower) and a time for us to get together without our kids and without worrying about our kids...so last night, after the kids were all in bed, we met downtown at my friend Nina's place for some good food, wine (I had a sip--my first this pregnancy) and lots of conversation (a woman's dream, right?).
I received some pretty dang cute outfits, a gift-card for a pre-natal massage, and Sarah R. knitted Eleanor a sweet baby-hat. Here are some lame pics I took --I was more interested in hanging out then photographing, so there's not much of a record. Nina lives in the 360 condo's downtown and we were in their club-room.
