Henry and Eleanor...

I really think he likes her. I often leave her with him while I run to go wash my hands, turn on the oven, get the phone, etc. and when I come back he's usually leaned over talking to her, kissing her or patting her. Yesterday when he woke from nap he was all groggy and silent and I placed her on the bed next to him and he began to gently rub her head. His baby-talking is very sweet. He tries to get her to smile and tells her she's pretty. It basically makes me want to burst into tears of joy when I see him being sweet to her. She's seven weeks old now and he has only one time said anything negative about her and that's "Hers bothering me." when I placed her a little too close to him when he was grumpy.

He of course doesn't like it when she cries but even that's gotten better. He used to start shrieking even louder than her, "Baby sister's too loud!!!" and if we were in the car he would be crying too and flailing, like he was about to explode (which is sort of how I feel when she cries, so I sympathize--so picture me driving with a shrieking toddler and baby--it's a real moment of zen), but now "Baby sister's too loud" is stated in a more commentary tone. Now we even have this game when she cries where we put our hands up like, "Huh? Isn't that something...I wonder why she's crying?". This seems to diffuse the stress and panic he feels when she cries.

Anyway, I'm really proud of Henry. I think he's going to be a very good big brother. He already is looking out for her. He told me the other day that I needed to get her booger out for her and I said my fingers were too big and I couldn't reach it. "Ooz a P-snip." (Translation: Use a Q-tip).
